For years, the Post Wanted team has covered the most life-changing, out-of-this-world products. But, never have we ever anticipated a product to actually go out of this world — out of our homes, and into space.

You read that correctly. For the first time ever, acclaimed smart cleaning brand Roborock partnered with a third party to launch its flagship robot vacuum, the S8 MaxV Ultra , into space.

So, why and how did we do it?

The mission objective was to test the durability and performance of Roborock's flagship model in one of the harshest environments possible. The variables were numerous, but perhaps the most challenging factors were the extreme temperatures and near-vacuum conditions, which made not only for a spectacular endeavor but a true test of our technology.

The swift S8 MaxV Ultra began its outside-of-Earth-orbit in zero gravity using Roborock’s remote control, capturing stunning images and videos of the cosmos. The purpose of this endeavor was to exemplify how the brand’s ethos is all about “cleaning beyond limits.”

The brand’s commitment to innovation and pushing the boundaries of robotic technology couldn’t be showcased more than venturing into space. Not to mention, Roborock is one of the team’s most-used and most recommended models that allows us to clean our homes hands-free.

For this mission, engineers made internal modifications to the Roborock’s electronic control systems to integrate with the flight computer, allowing them to activate the side brushes, DuoRoller brush system, and “Hello Rocky” voice command at 120,000 feet. “As a result, while the vacuum may not operate like a typical Roborock vacuum upon its return, it can still fully display its core features,” the brand told The Post.

What’s impressive about the mission is how the S8 MaxV Ultra was able to withstand extreme conditions, including temperatures dropping below -60 degrees Celsius — an environment that would typically cause inferior batteries to lose charge or motors to freeze.

“Despite these challenges, the S8 MaxV Ultra retained power and activated smoothly, with its core mechanical systems left in their original factory condition,” the brand noted. “This incredible performance proves that the vacuum’s product quality and durability truly go beyond limits, thriving even in the most unforgiving environments.”

The operation is just as exceptional as the vacuum itself. For the operation, the vacuum was tied to a large bespoke stratospheric balloon filled with hydrogen gas. The gas inside the balloon was lighter than air, creating a lift that carried the craft into space. Talk about impressive! 

The robot vacuum also comes in white and boasts a slew of other smart features as well. There’s a proprietary FlexiArm Design Side Brush in its circular make to help reach nooks and crannies in your home. Its “Hello Rocky” Intelligent Voice Assistant makes controlling your hands-free cleaning device more seamless, especially through its paired app if you’re away from its sight.

Additionally, the S8 MaxV Ultra features up to 140 degrees of hot water mop washing. This makes cleaning extra fabulous as stubborn and greasy stains will be easily dissolved from the mop, along with the mop also being disinfected. As a result, the kitchen and dining areas will be sterile.

Its Intelligent Dirt Detection technology is also “out of this world.” During the mop washing cycle, Roborock’s detection checks how dirty the mops are to decide if they need to be washed again for proper performance. In heavily soiled areas, the floors will be mopped again to ensure that perfect clean we all crave.
